ABOUT OUR SEMINARY
St. Mary’s Malankara Seminary is the Major Seminary of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. The Seminary is subject to the authority of the Major Archbishop-Catholicos and the Synod of Bishops of the Syro-Malankara Church. At present, Most Rev. Dr. Vincent Mar Paulos is the Chairman of the Seminary Commission; Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Mar Irenios and Most Rev. Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom serve as the members of the Synodal Commission for the Seminary. ...

I am delighted to know that St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary, Trivandrum is launching its official website. The founding of St. Mary’s Seminary in the year 1983 was the fulfilment of the long cherished dream of Servant of God Mar Ivanios, the pioneer of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Reunion movement. For more than three decades now, the priests formed in St. Mary’s Seminary have nourished and deepened the faith of our people all over the country and abroad and built up the Church through their dedicated priestly and pastoral ministry thus fulfilling in great measure the prophetic words spoken by Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios of Happy Memory during his inaugural address: “you are the pioneers. Behind you come the glory and splendor.” ...

Catholic Church gives special care for formation to priesthood. Pope John Paul II’s post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis (1992) pointed to the four dimensions of formation: spiritual, human, intellectual and pastoral. This vision is further developed in the Ratio Fundamentalis (2017). St. Mary's Seminary seeks to form candidates for the priesthood after the Heart of Jesus by integrating these four "pillars" or dimensions of formation. The goal of priestly formation is to become configured to Christ. Pointing to Jesus our Lord and Saviour as our great example, St. Paul says: “You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had.”...
